Kern Insurance Services, LLC has been established upon character and integrity, servicing our aging society by providing the highest quality of insurance to fit their individual needs. Amy R. Kern, CLTC, LUTCF, FHIASAmy grew up in the Insurance Industry working with her father during her teen years and received her Life, Health, and Accident License in March of 2003 at the age of 24. This same year, the Medicare Modernization act of 2003 was signed by President Bush, which brought about one of the biggest changes to Medicare since it began in 1965, coverage of prescription drugs. From the moment this law was passed, Amy has become an expert on Medicare law and how it relates to her clients’ needs.
In 2008, Amy went through the Leadership in Life Institute offered through NAIFA, the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. This experience afforded Amy new vision, courage, and leadership skills and gave new insight on how to professionally become a leader in the industry. Amy Graduated in August of 2008. Soon after, in October of 2008 she began Kern Insurance Services, LLC.
Amy has served as Personal Relations Chair for NAIFA and worked closely with the Community Blood Center to organize blood drives at Kern Insurance Services, LLC. She also has worked alongside the MDA to help organize the annual Superbowl Event on Superbowl Sunday. Together, NAIFA and MDA have raised thousands to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Kern Insurance Services, LLC sponsors events and efforts made by the Special Olympics, Care to Learn, the Ozarks Food Harvest, Habitat for Humanity, the USO, and the Man UP AND GO Organization. Amy and her husband Dave, sponsor a child, Shadrack, in Kenya, and young girl, Lemmy from Bolivia through Compassion International.
Amy received the CLTC (Certified Long Term Care) designation in March 2011. She has a great passion for protecting her clients’ assets when it comes to needing care for long periods of time whether in Skilled Nursing Facilities, or at Home. She has moderated the Long-term Care LUTCF designation course through the American College and has scheduled and written CE classes for on behalf of NAIFA, I-day and SAHU. She received the LUTCF designation in 2014. She is committed to education not just for herself, but for her peers.
From 2010 to 2014, Amy became the LILI Chair for NAIFA-MO, and has remained committed to LILI ever since. As the LILI Chair for NAIFA-Missouri, Amy helped coordinate and administer the Leadership in Life Institute which is offered to NAIFA members throughout all of Missouri.
In 2012 and 2013, Amy served as the President of the planning committee that oversees the Ozark’s Annual Insurance Day in the Ozarks. This 34 year, annual event focuses on education for insurance agents throughout Southwest MO. Moreover, it focuses on Insurance legislation throughout the state of Missouri. Amy is committed to maintaining the highest amount of knowledge for Industry laws and changes to best help her clients strategize and protect their assets.
In May of 2013, Amy was sworn in as President of the NAIFA-Springfield Association. In February of 2013 she was awarded the Judy Sorensen award at their annual Awards Luncheon. In 2014, she received the association’s Advisor of the Year award. Through NAIFA, Amy has visited many different local and national meetings working with industry leaders from all over the country. She has also served the Regional Vice President of Southwest MO for NAIFA MO Board and is currently the President-Elect of Missouri-NAIFA.
Amy has repeatedly had the opportunity to visit the Nation’s Capital and visit with our Congressmen in Washington D.C. to talk about Insurance Laws that affect our clients and their ability to remain financially independent. This cause is extremely important to Amy and part of her mission statement.
Amy works with several different insurance organizations including NAHU. As a member of NAHU, the National Association of Health Underwriters, Amy has served as the Awards Chair on their Springfield Chapter Board as well as a liaison for State functions. NAHU keeps us informed on Health Insurance Laws that protect our clients’ futures.
In the Spring of 2020, Amy earned her newest designation, Fellow Health Insurance Advanced Studies through AHIP. By earning the FHIAS® designation, she gained a broader understanding of how such insurance products as disability, long-term care, dental coverage, and Medicare work together to make our entire health care system stronger.
In 2020, Amy served on the Comprehensive Plan Advisory Team for Forward SGF, (the official name of the community-wide comprehensive planning process for the City of Springfield) The Advisory Team serves as a community sounding board, meeting at key points during the process to review and discuss issues and discuss overall planning direction and provide feedback on key deliverables for Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council consideration over the next 20 years.
Amy has made many friends in the Industry and regularly seeks advice from top legislators in MO. Because of the relationships she has made over the years, her experience, and her drive for knowledge, she is able to provide the best service to her clients’ needs today and plan for the future.

As a Navy Corpsman assigned to serve with Marine Recon and at The Navy Hospital, at Da Nang; he spent 32 months in Viet Nam. While in the Navy, Roy graduated from UCLA School of Medicine with a Para-Medic Degree, and then later graduated from Cedarville University. At Cedarville University he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration in Marketing and Management, as well as, a Minor in Biology in the area of Pre-Med, and a Minor in Biblical Studies. Roy went on to work on the faculty, as an instructor, and staff, as Director of Public Relations and Director of Student Recruitment for six years. While in Ohio, he instructed Para-Medics through Ohio State University School of Medicine, and Advertising through Ohio State School of Business. In addition, he taught American Red Cross First Aid Instructors in Basic First Aid, Advanced First Aid, and CPR. There, he was the President of the Clark County American Red Cross Board of Directors for four years. In his late twenties and early thirties, he served as the Village Councilman of Cedarville, Ohio for five years, as well as, the Utilities Chairman. It was in 1979, that Roy entered the Insurance Business. He began with Christian Fidelity, and was a member of the Top Producer’s Club for over 22 years. Roy founded Roy W. Kern and Associates in August of 1984.
He has served in each chair of the Missouri Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors including the Regional Vice President and Past President chairs. This is true on both the state association (NAIFA Missouri-member since 1979) and the local association (NAIFA-Springfield- member since 1981).
Roy has also served in each chair and was President twice of the General Agents and Managers Association (GAMA-member since 1995). He has been the State Chairman of LUTC and local LUTC Chairman for NAIFA-Springfield for 13 years, as well as their Field Representative. He has been honored with the Life Companies Achievement Award and an abundance of sales awards focusing on top production with many companies.
Besides being a member of NAIFA, Roy has also been Chairman of Insurance and Financial Advisors Political Action Council (IFAPAC member since 1999) and the top contributor of IFAPAC in the history of the Springfield Association. In fact, Roy was mentioned in Advisor Today (September 2006) in recognition of outstanding recruitment. He was also Chairman of IFAPIC (laws and legislation), Health, Legislation (both Federal and State) Life Underwriting Training Council (LUTC), Membership, Programs, and I-Day. In addition, he was a Charter member of Association of Health Insurance Administration (AHIA member since 2002). He is a member of the National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU-member since 1979) and has served as Springfield NAHU Legislative Chairperson and is the HUPAC Chairperson for the local chapter. American Association Long-Term Care Insurance (AALTCI member 16 years). For 28 years Roy has helped many senior adults in his career through the SCHIC (Senior Citizens Health Insurance Counseling) program that NAIFA started. He has served on the NAIFA-National’s Membership team, responsible for Iowa, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Missouri.
Roy has sat before the United States Senate on laws for Long-Term Care. Furthermore, he has been on the Congressional Sub-Committee and an Advisor on the Sub-Committee for Benefits for Senior Citizens for eighteen years. Roy has been on many advisory committees for legislations that are now laws on the Senior Market.
On April 16, 2008, Roy was awarded the Outstanding Missourian Award of 2008 by the Missouri House of Representatives, Ninety-fourth Assembly in Jefferson City on the Chamber floor of the Capitol.
He has moderated twenty-eight LUTC courses over twenty-five years. He has taught state and local LUTC Chairmen in Memphis, TN. for six years. Besides being a workshop speaker at many Insurance Conferences and Conventions, he has been a workshop speaker for continuing education at every NAIFA association in Missouri except two, and twenty-eight outside Missouri.
Roy W. Kern is a contributor and reviewer to the four Long-Term Care Books for the LTCP Designation and two LUTC courses. Not to mention, Roy is a recipient for the prestigious Educator of the Year Award in the state of Missouri.
He has been honored with the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisor’s 2004 Advisor of the Year Award not just for the Springfield Association, but also for the entire state of Missouri. In 2010, Roy was honored with the Advisor of the Decade award by Springfield-NAIFA.
Bryan A. Cole, FHIASBryan has been with Kern Insurance Services, LLC since 2017. Since his start, he has been supportive and innovative in his strive to get tasks done in an accurate and efficient manner making him a valuable asset to our Clients. Bryan is licensed in Health and Life products and is a member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. He is our most “Tech Savvy” agent and enjoys helping his clients understand the wide array of options they have as Medicare Beneficiaries. He is currently working towards his LUTCF designation. Bryan enjoys fishing in his free time, and has been a fan and lacrosse player of his alma mater, Missouri State University.
Jen Hilzendeger, FHIASWe are excited to welcome Jen Hilzendeger back to our team at Kern Insurance Services, LLC. Jen has over 20 years of experience in the education field, and she brings her love of teaching to our clients by helping them understand their options when it comes to their individual needs. Jen is fully licensed to offer Life, Health, and Accident plans and is certified in both Medicare and Marketplace plans. Jen is a member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. She volunteers for several nonprofits in our area and believes in helping our community. Jens favorites are music and her husband, Joey and their Staffordshire terrier, Titus.
