Amy grew up in the Insurance Industry working with her father during her teen years and received her Life, Health, and Accident License in March of 2003 at the age of 24. This same year, the Medicare Modernization act of 2003 was signed by President Bush, which brought about one of the biggest changes to Medicare since it began in 1965, which was coverage of prescription drugs. From the moment this law was passed, Amy has become an expert on Medicare law and how it relates to her clients needs.
In 2008, Amy went through the Leadership in Life Institute offered through NAIFA, the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. This experience afforded Amy new vision, courage, and leadership skills and gave new insight on how to professionally become a leader in the industry. Amy Graduated in August of 2008. Soon after, in October of 2008 she began Kern Insurance Services, LLC.
Amy has served as Personal Relations Chair for NAIFA and worked closely with the Community Blood Center to organize blood drives at Kern Insurance Services, LLC. She also has work alongside the MDA to help organize the annual Superbowl Event on Superbowl Sunday. February 2015, they celebrated their 26th Annual Superbowl. Together, NAIFA and MDA have raised thousands to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Kern Insurance Services, LLC sponsors events and efforts made by the Special Olympics, Care to Learn, the Ozarks Food Harvest, Habitat for Humanity, the USO, and the Man UP AND GO Organization. Amy sponsors a child, Shadrack, in Kenya through Compassion International.
Amy received the CLTC (Certified Long Term Care) designation in March 2011. She has a great passion for protecting her clients assets when it comes to needing care for long periods of time whether in Skilled Nursing Facilities, or at Home. She has moderated the Long-term Care LUTCF designation course through the American College and has scheduled and written CE classes for on behalf of NAIFA, I-day and SAHU. She received the LUTCF designation in 2014. She is committed to education not just for herself, but for her peers.
From 2010 to 2014, Amy became the LILI Chair for NAIFA-MO, and has remained committed to LILI ever since. As the LILI Chair for NAIFA-Missouri, Amy helped coordinate and administer the Leadership in Life Institute which is offered to NAIFA members throughout all of Missouri.
In 2012 and 2013, Amy served as the President of the planning committee that oversees the Ozark’s Annual Insurance Day in the Ozarks. This 34 year, annual event focuses on education for insurance agents throughout Southwest MO. Moreover, it focuses on Insurance legislation throughout the state of Missouri. Amy is committed to maintaining the highest amount of knowledge for Industry laws and changes to best help her clients strategize and protect their assets.
In May of 2013, Amy was sworn in as President of the NAIFA-Springfield Association. In February of 2013 she was awarded the Judy Sorensen award at their annual Awards Luncheon. Through NAIFA, Amy has visited many different local and national meetings industry leaders from all over the country meeting with. She is currently the Regional Vice President of Southwest MO for NAIFA MO Board.
In May 2014, Amy had the opportunity to visit the Nation’s Capitol and visit with our Congressmen to talk about Insurance Laws that effect our clients and their ability to remain financially independent. This cause is extremely important to Amy and part of her mission statement.
Amy works with several different insurance organizations including NAHU. As a member of NAHU, the National Association of Health Underwriters, Amy serves as the Awards Chair on their Springfield Chapter Board as well as a liaison for State functions. NAHU keeps us informed on Health Insurance Laws that protect our clients futures.
Amy has made many friends in the Industry and regularly seeks advice from top legislators in MO. Because of the relationships she has made over the years, her experience, and her drive for knowledge, she is able to provide the best service to her clients needs today and plan for the future.
Roy W. Kern, LUTCF, CLTC, CSA, CECA, RFC, LTCP (Independent Agent)

Born September 11, 1944 during the Roosevelt Presidency, and raised in Waterloo, Iowa, Roy W. Kern is the youngest of four children. Roy was raised with his older brothers that are twins (Richard and Roger) and a sister, Betty, who is still in Iowa today. Brought up in a “full house” of sorts, Roy was taught to understand the importance of family and values.
Upon graduating High School, Roy left for the navy in the mid sixties. There, he graduated from UCLA School of Medicine with a Para-Medic Degree. As well as the Navy’s A, B, and C Schools.
Within the five tours he spent in Vietnam, Roy was an Advanced United States Navy Corpsman with Independent Duty designation assigned with Field Marine Force under the Medical Security Program. He served with the Marines in a Force Recon Unit in the I Corps Area of Vietnam. Alternatively, the North Section next to the DMZ. He made 57 parachute jumps with search and rescue teams; including an ejection from an F-4 Phantom Fighter Jet. He served one year in Vietnam as a specialist in Facial Restructure, Eye Surgery, and the treatment of Eye Injury and Disease at the Untied States Naval Hospital, Danang. Throughout his naval career, Roy delivered 243 babies and was decorated with twelve medals including the Silver Star, 2 Bronze Stars, and 3 Purple Hearts. Roy left Vietnam a month before turning twenty-five.
Upon his return to the States, he immediately married his high school sweetheart, Becky, (8/23/69) and the two began studies at Cedarville University in 1969. At Cedarville, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration in Marketing and Management, as well as, a Minor in Biology in the area of Pre-Med, and a Minor in Biblical Studies. Roy went on to work on the faculty, as an instructor, and staff, as Public Relations for Student Recruitment for six years. As the first of his family to graduate from college, Roy believes whole-heartedly in the importance of education.
While in Ohio, he instructed Para-Medics through Ohio State University School of Medicine, and Advertising through Ohio State School of Business. In addition, he taught American Red Cross First Aid Instructors in Basic First Aid, Advanced First Aid, and CPR. There, he was the President of the Clark County American Red Cross Board of Directors for four years. Since then, Roy himself has donated more than 26 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross and the Community Blood Center, combined.
In his late twenties and early thirties, he served as the Village Councilman of Cedarville, Ohio for five years, as well as, the Utilities Chairman. He was also an advisor to the Cedarville 4-H Club.
Becky gave birth to their first daughter, Laura, in 1976 whom, today is married with four boys (14 and under). To them, Roy is Granddaddy.
Their second daughter, Amy, was born in 1978 in Springfield, Ohio. Today, Amy is also an Independent Agent and Owner of Kern Insurance Services, LLC.
It was in 1979, that Roy entered the Insurance Business. His studies in health care, Business Administration in Marketing and Management, and Advertising, were a promising start for his new Career and growing family. He began with Christian Fidelity, and has been a member of the Top Producer’s Club for over 22 years.
In 1980, their son, Daniel, was born in Trenton, Missouri where Roy was an active member of the Rotary Club. A year later, the Kerns relocated in Springfield, Missouri.
Mr. Kern has proven himself a leader over his lifetime. In Insurance Organizations, he has served in each chair of the Missouri Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors including the Regional Vice President and Past President chairs. This is true on both the state association (NAIFA Missouri-member 35yrs) and the local association (NAIFA-Springfield- member 35-yrs).
Roy has also served in each chair and was President twice of the General Agents and Managers Association (GAMA-member 24 yrs). He has been the State Chairman of LUTC and local LUTC Chairman for SAIFA for 13 years, as well as their Field Representative. He has been honored with the Life Companies Achievement Award and an abundance of sales awards focusing on top production with many companies.
Besides being a member of NAIFA for 36 years, Roy has also been Chairman of Insurance and Financial Advisors Political Action Council (IFAPAC member 26yrs) and the top contributor of IFAPAC in the history of the Springfield Association. In fact, Roy was mentioned in Advisor Today (September 2006) in recognition of outstanding recruitment. He was also Chairman of IFAPIC (laws and legislation), Health, Legislation (both Federal and State) Life Underwriting Training Council (LUTC), Membership, Programs, and I-Day. In addition, he is a Charter member of Association of Health Insurance Administration (AHIA member 17yrs). He is a member of the National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU-member 29yrs) and serves as Springfield NAHL Legislative Chairperson for the local chapter. American Association Long-Term Care Insurance (AALTCI member 10 years). Roy has helped many senior adults in his career through the SCHIC (Senior Citizens Health Insurance Counseling) program that NAIFA started. For many years he has been on the NAIFA Membership team, responsible for Iowa, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Missouri. He has also been State Representative for Christian Fidelity through the GEM Group. Roy is devoted to leading and mentoring his peers and apprentices in the Insurance Industry.
Without a leader working towards changing and creating new law, we would be far from the results we have received. This is why Roy has sat before the United States Senate on laws for Long-Term Care. Furthermore, he has been on the Congressional Sub-Committee and an Advisor on the Sub-Committee for Benefits for Senior Citizens for sixteen years. Roy has been on many advisory committees for legislations that are now laws on the Senior Market.
After helping to change the way the laws work, Roy has been a steadfast trainer with educating agents on new laws and concepts. He has moderated twenty three LUTC courses over twenty years. He has taught state and local LUTC Chairmen in Memphis, TN. for six years. Besides being a workshop speaker at many Insurance Conferences and Conventions, he has been a workshop speaker for continuing education at every NAIFA association in Missouri except two, and twenty-eight outside Missouri.
Roy W. Kern is a contributor and reviewer to the four Long-Term Care Books for the LTCP Designation and two LUTC courses. Not to mention, Roy is a recipient for the prestigious Educator of the Year Award in the state of Missouri.
He has personally dedicated himself to his own continuing education and has gained the designations of LUTCF (Life Underwriting Training Council Fellow), CLTC (Certified Long-Term Care) In fact; Roy has received an award this year as one of the 100 top Long-Term Care producers in the nation with LTCi and the only one in the state of Missouri. More designations include: CSA (Certified Senior Advisor), CECA (Certified Elder Caregiver Advisor), and RFC (Registered Financial Consultant). His is also a graduate of AMTC-GAMA’s Agents and Managers Training Course.
Roy also believes it is important to give back to the community and has been the Insurance Counselor for the Senior Citizen’s Center, The Harmony House for 25 years. He has also served as the Board of Directors of the Ozark Mountain Kiwanis Club. Also, he is a member of the Breakfast Club of the Ozarks, The North Springfield Betterment Association, a Lifetime Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a Lifetime member of the Marine Corps League, and a Paid-Up-for Life member of the American Legions.
Among Roy’s efforts, none are more important than his commitment to serving the Lord. He is a deacon and has been Chairman of the Deacons twice of Ridgecrest Baptist Church. He has been the Chairman of Trustees many times of this nearly 4,000-member church and substitute-teaches Sunday school. In addition, Roy was the Chairman of the Board of Hidden Bluff Ministries; an outreach to inner-city children to lead them to Christ. He is a Past President of the Ozark Mountain Adult Chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and a member of the Fellowship of Companies for Christ International. Roy is also a qualified Speaker for Gideons International and an active member of the Greene County Gideon Camp.
Today, Roy W. Kern is known throughout Missouri as an icon for raising the bar for associates to strive for integrity, strong character and willingness to give back to his community. He has been honored with the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisor’s 2004 Advisor of the Year Award not just for the Springfield Association, but also for the entire state of Missouri. The Insurance and Financial Advisor of the Year is awarded for:
- Attained success in the business of Insurance and Finance as recognized by both his own company and by the standards of the industry.
- A demonstrated commitment to continuing education.
- A supporter of the life and health insurance industry through active participation in MAFIA and other industry organizations.
- A productive citizen who has been involved in civic, religious, educational, charitable or other public service activities.
- The award is granted for having earned the respect of his or her peers both inside and outside of our industry as demonstrated by being appointed or elected to positions of leadership in insurance, civic, religious, educational, charitable or political groups.
- This award is given for not only for their professional involvement in the industries of Insurance and Financial Services, but community involvement as well.
In 2008, Roy was awarded the Outstanding Missourian of the Year award on the House floor of the Capitol in Jefferson City, MO. The award is given by the House of Representatives in the state of Missouri once a year to a citizen who has shown exemplary leadership in Missouri.
After 44 years, Roy is still a devoted husband to Becky, who is a retired Kindergarten teacher with a Masters in Education. A devoted father, and “Grandaddy” to his four grandsons. He has been called corpsman, teacher, chairman, committeeman, representative, author, boss…and the list goes on. Yet, there is no doubt; everyone that has met Roy W. Kern calls him “friend”.
